Leaves are known as the
kitchen of the plants as they prepare the food for the whole plant.
With the help of the green pigment
chlorophyll, the leaves put together water from the soil absorbed by the roots and
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere that enters the leaf through
stomata, in the presence of sunlight prepares the food called
starch and give out
oxygen by the process of
Photosynthesis, which literally means Photo- Sunlight , Synthesis- putting together. During this process, light energy(Sunlight) is converted into chemical energy( fixed carbon compounds-
Carbohydrates) and stored.
